I have now successfully gritted my driveway and road two
times and I’m feeling jolly pleased with myself because of it. My wheels no longer spin when I am driving
out and there is a 20 yard space where I can walk without holding onto the
buggy for dear life.
It funny to think that I used to take a newborn out for
walks in this weather. Even funnier that
Alby would sleep for the entire walk. These
days it is rare for Alby to sleep when out on a walk even in good weather. Even when I know he’s knackered. I remember when he was a baby I would
routinely putting the rain cover over the pram in an attempt to block out the
wind. No such luck these days – Alby grabs
and kicks at the cover which quickly steams up from within and seems to excite
him rather than pacify him into sleep.
All wrapped up and ready to go |
That said, it may just be a case of him not being snug enough. With the recent ice, sharp winds and threats
of snow I have taken to dressing Alby and me in our entire wardrobes before heading
out on our twice daily dog walks. To his
normal clothes I add one jumper, a fleece jacket, a snow suit, gloves and a
blanket wedged between his legs and the foot muff. It’s a wonder we go anywhere as it is quite
impossible to move for all the layers but this strategy over the past two days
has induced sleep. Whether it is because
he is so snug or because he has finally submitted to the fact that there really
is nothing else to do I have no idea but a well rested Alby is a happy Alby, a
healthy Alby and that makes for a happy Mama.
There's nothing fashionable about how I do layers |
